Frequently-Asked Questions regarding RadiesseTM

  • Is this product safe?

The safety of this product has been well-established by FDA. Its primary component, calcium hydroxylapatite, has been safely used for many years in dental, facial, and orthopedic surgery. Its other components are on the FDA's G.R.A.S. (Generally Regarded as Safe) list for their safe long-term use in other products.

  • Are there any side effects?

Some common injection-related side effects occur, such as swelling, pain, itching, and tenderness at injection site. When injected in the lips this substance can form nodules, or small lumps, in some patients.

  • How does Radiesse work?

Radiesse's microspheres are suspended within a gel carrier. The gel carrier gradually resorbs and is replaced with your own body's natural soft-tissue ingrowth. The microspheres provide scaffolding for replacement by your own body?s soft tissue.

  • Is this product FDA-approved?

Although this product is not FDA-approved for facial aesthetic applications, it is FDA-approved for soft tissue augmentation in otorhinolaryngology (ENT) and for maxillofacial surgical applications. Studies for subsequent FDA approval are currently ongoing

  • Will Radiesse become hard or noticeable to touch?

No. It will remain soft and pliable and will take on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue.

  • How long will Radiesse last?

Individual results will vary. Most patients report correction for approximately twelve to eighteen months. Duration of the product can be enhanced by touch-up treatments before the product has fully dissipated.

  • How many treatments will be required?

Some patients may achieve an optimal correction on their first injection; others will need a touch-up injection at approximately 6-8 weeks post-injection to achieve optimal results.

  • What areas of the face are normally treated with Radiesse?

Typical Radiesse treatments include: smoothing and contouring smile lines or nasolabial folds, wrinkles at the corner of the mouth, acne scars, facial defects or recessions, frown lines, restoring volume in and around the cheeks, modest enhancement or correcting asymmetrical features.
